Acclaimed improvements for a much-loved London concert hall
: Royal Albert Hall and Taylor Woodrow Management
: A massive renovation programme at The Royal Albert Hall, South Kensington, London
: Lancsville’s part of the project was to redevelop the “behind the scenes” area below and behind the stage to create a dressing room, storage and transit area for stage sets and equipment. A new access tunnel was excavated around the auditorium to allow services installation and maintenance. The stage support infrastructure was renewed to increase the previously minimal headroom below the stage. Lancsville created new steel supports for the raised aluminium floor which the Royal Albert Hall can fit over the stage to create new access below the arena floor.
: During all of the works, the Hall was continually used by the general public and staff. The stage had to be held in position with temporary supports while steelwork was strengthened and a new 15m lattice beam was installed.
: Lancsville had to build in extra protection measures and checks every day to accommodate these visitors safely. Working on this historic building meant keeping mess and dust to a minimum and taking special care not to damage existing (often very old) structures and brickwork. The new stage supports replaced brick piers with a reinforced concrete slab and retaining walls.
