A new building on a new site as part of a major relocation
: Chelsea College of Art and Design, and main contractor HBG
: Demolishing, renovating and constructing new faculty buildings for Chelsea College in its new location off Millbank in London.
: Chelsea College of Art and Design is consolidating its current four locations to one new site at Millbank, next to Tate Britain. A major construction programme scheduled over a number of years is now in its final phase. Lancsville was invited to take responsibility for demolition, strip-out of existing buildings, groundworks, drainage, structural alterations and concrete works.
: Working on existing buildings often means discovering issues with existing construction, stability and infrastructure as the project progresses. Lancsville was asked to work with a large number of contractors on this very significant programme of works. As a centre of excellence for Art and Design, the College’s requirements are exacting.
: Playing a full part in the overall planning and project management process was key to Lancsville’s success. The team made sure that their demolition and works programme allowed some contingency time to handle unexpected problems: a flexible approach was key.
