A striking Central London landmark for a respected university

: City University, London and main contractor Norwest Holst

: Building a highly visible new building for City University’s School of Social Sciences and the Language and Communication Science faculty in Islington, North London.

: After demolition of the existing seventy-year old Connaught Building, the new building is a low energy design with a striking central atrium. It will accommodate over 1,000 students and staff. Lancsville was selected by the main contractor to deliver the building’s reinforced concrete frame.

: The seven storey building also has a basement. The frame is a concrete superstructure to be delivered to a tight schedule: its completion was a major dependency for all the other building work to be carried out.

: An exceptionally high quality of finish was demanded by the architect and clients, drawing on Lancsville’s extensive experience of concrete and frame construction. The work was finished on schedule in 56 weeks. The building is now in use, providing a 21st century facility for teaching and research.
